He was born in Rize in 1970. He is a member of 20 persons family. He studied primary and junior highschool at Zeytinburnu Highschool Electric Departmant. Then, he entered İstanbul Technical University, Marine Engineer Departmant, but he didn't study. He left Karadeniz Technical University, Mathematic Departmant too. He begans to study at conservatory in 1987-88. He left Conservotary because of his job. Altay couldn't continue opera which is close to his personality and way of life, because of economic conditions. He took his whole family's responsibility. His tendency to music began with a bağlama of his brother. He had no doubt his success because he believed in his talent, and he was self-confident. People knew him firstly with the song called “Var Ya”. Then, he continued his music carrer with his own albums. His first album's name is “Kalpsizsin”, then his following albums called “Yolcu Yolunda Gerek”, “Seninle”, “Anadolu'dan Dünyaya” and “Öyle Olsun” were released. His last album's name is “Zor Bulursun”. He is preparing his new album which is going to be released by Avrupa Muzik.
